Marie ZimmermannMarie Zimmermann epitomizes the new breed of twentieth century craftsmen who arose out of the American Arts and Crafts movement. She was a renaissance craftsman, metalsmith, and jeweler, interested in the history of design and metalsmithing from around the world. Zimmermann studied the products and methods of goldsmiths, jewelers, and blacksmiths from prehistoric times to the modern age. She assimilated this knowledge and used eclectic, artistic vocabulary to fabricate new forms and finishes. Her work spoke of sophistication, polish and culture to the new elite of the late teens, twenties, thirties and forties.
